Delve into the history of billboards as public art with Dr. Jen Edwards, Curator at the Bechtler Museum of Moderln Art. From Barbara Kruger’s ominous Surveillance is your busywork billboard in 1985 to Shepard Fairey’s sabotaging graphics of Andre the Giant ordering viewers to OBEY to the artists decorating the highways with the ArtPop program, artists have been using these monumental public spaces to convert the commercial arena into a chance for raising consciousness. Dr. Edwards will share a history of billboard art, then moderate a panel discussion with the artists featured in The Fine Art of ArtPop. $15 – RSVP required. https://eldergalleryclt.com/the-fine-art-of-artpop/
